First Appointment Information

Few things are more terrifying for a curly client than walking into a salon for an appointment, and not knowing what you will look like when all is said and done.

(We’ve all been there)

But there’s no need to fear, with a little preparation and communication, you should be able to leave with a look you love! At MisfitCurls we cut dry, curl by curl. After the cut, we will also teach you how to cleanse, hydrate, and style your hair based on the look you’re going for and your lifestyle/maintenance level. This way, two days after your appointment, you aren’t standing in your bathroom feeling frustrated and confused.

Before all of that magic happens though, it’s important to know what to do BEFORE heading to the salon. That’s why we’ve put together this quick preparation guide for anyone who has never been to MisfitCurls or had a curly cut.

Here’s how to get ready for your appointment:
Come in with your hair down. Your stylist will cut your curly hair while it’s dry, and in its natural state. Arrive at the salon with your curls conditioned, detangled, dry and how you normally wear it (PRODUCT is FINE, but no twist-outs, braids, curling irons, flat irons, or any other manipulation). Let your hair hang loosely—accessories like ponytail holders, bobby pins, and clips can disrupt your curl pattern. Avoiding these things will allow your stylist to see your true curl type.

Bring your products
During your consultation, we will discuss curl friendly products and ingredients, specific to your hair type. We are brand neutral and will suggest products that work for curly hair, and are within your budget. Feel free to bring any products you are currently using (shampoo, conditioner, gel, mousse, etc) so we can discuss if the ingredients are curl friendly.

Keep your expectations in check
Bringing in a few #hairgoals pics to show your stylist is a great idea, but when you’re scouting online, choose images of curly hair that match your own texture, density, and lifestyle/maintenance level. A beloved look on a similar curl type is much more likely to be achievable for you and your stylist.

Make a list of questions
You may have mental notes about everything you want to go over with your stylist, but once you plop down in the chair, it’s easy to forget your talking points. To prevent brain fog, jot down your most pressing concerns and aspirations. What do you want to know about product application? What’ s your biggest gripe about your hair? Are you struggling with moisture or a particular part of your regimen? Conversation is the key to connecting with your stylist, and learning how to love your curls.

Appointment duration
For a new client, plan on being at the salon for up to two hours. This includes the initial conversation you have with your stylist (including product education and your expectations), the dry cut, a curl friendly shampoo and condition, style, styling coaching session, drying time, and double checking the cut after it is dry.

Payment options
At MisfitCurls cash is preferred, but we also accept Venmo, Zelle, or Credit Cards. If using a credit card, we do charge a 4% convenience fee. Gift cards are available online. In the shop, we also carry many curly friendly products that are available for sale.

Relax and enjoy your visit
We appreciate your visit and strive for our salon to be a relaxing, comfortable, and inviting space. We offer bottled water, coffee, tea, or soda, at no charge, to our clients.

See you soon!
